ELC exists to provide the opportunity to claim up to 6000 towards retraining into a new career. The ELC scheme contributes up to 80% towards courses. Funding is only available for training towards higher level learning/nationally recognised qualifications at Level 3 or above such as one of Gastec’s Managed Learning Programmes.
You can gain all the information you need from your Service Resettlement Advisor (SRA) and the Career Transition Partnership (CTP). In short, the Resettlement Package you will receive will depend on how long you have served.
Service leavers should plan ahead and allow sufficient time, at least five weeks, between submitting a claim and starting your course. Gastec has a dedicated team to help guide service leavers on the process of using ELC funding.
Please note the Terms that apply to the ELCAS scheme:
Invoices from ELC learning providers may only be presented to ELCAS for payment on or after the course start date.
Retrospective ELC claims are not permitted. Claim forms must be received by ELCAS at least 15 clear working days prior to the course start date.
Before making a second or third claim you must complete your claim Evaluation return via this website and supply proof of completion to your Education Staff for all previous learning activities.
It is important that you do not set up a loan/credit agreement for the full amount under any circumstances.
You are advised not to pay any money to the Provider or book the course before you receive your Claim Authorisation Note. This also applies to potential new providers awaiting “approved” status to join the ELCAS list. Any money paid to providers (e.g. a deposit to secure a place) is paid purely at the personal risk of the individual. With this in mind, Gastec can accept a personal contribution to secure a place as our courses very often become full. We have been approved for courses for over 20 years through the scheme and have a guarantee of a refund if you are unable to attend the course on the start date.
You must make a personal contribution of at least 20% towards the total course cost.
Just because an organisation is listed as an Approved Provider does not mean that all of its courses are of the required level. Please check the course provider thoroughly when searching and ensure you will obtain the qualifications you are after at the end of the course.
You are reminded that ELC funding is only available for the pursuit of higher level learning i.e. for courses that result in a nationally recognised qualification at Level 3 or above on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) (England and Wales), a Level 6 or above on the Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework (SCQF) or, if pursued overseas, an approved international equivalent qualification.
At each stage of the process, you must consult both the JSP and your Education Staff to ensure that both you and your chosen learning activity are eligible for ELC support. Whatever course you intend on undertaking with Gastec, you can rest assured you are in safe hands.
