BFRS ELC TIDWORTH

With the BFRS Tidworth show done, its time to reflect on the days events. Attendance was at capacity and we talked to so many enthusiastic service personnel. The thing we love about these shows is the mix of attendees that come for a chat. Out of the service personnel many have no idea about the central heating industry or have an intention of getting qualified, however there are always so many great curious questions which we enjoy answering and leaving people with more knowledge.

Gastec training will be in attendance at multiple BFRS shows for the foreseeable future, so check the listings and see if we are attending near you!

What is the BFRS?

The BFRRS stands for British Forces Resettlement Services. It is an organization that helps military personnel transition to civilian life by providing a range of support services, including career advice, training, and assistance with accessing financial support for retraining or resettlement.

Regarding Enhanced Learning Credits (ELC), these are financial benefits available to eligible UK Armed Forces personnel who wish to undertake further learning and training after leaving or while still serving in the military. The Enhanced Learning Credits scheme is designed to support the development of skills that can help service members transition into civilian careers.

To claim Enhanced Learning Credits and use them for training with Gastec, a well-known provider of gas engineering training, here’s a general guide:

  1. Check Your Eligibility for ELC:
    • You must be a serving or ex-serving member of the UK Armed Forces.
    • You need to have accrued a minimum of 6 years of service.
    • Your claim must be for a training course that meets the scheme’s guidelines.
  2. Register for the ELC Scheme:
    • If you’re still in service, you’ll need to ensure that you are registered with the scheme. Ex-service members can apply to claim ELCs within a certain period after leaving the forces, typically within 10 years.
  3. Select a Training Course:
    • Gastec offers a range of gas training programs that could qualify for ELC funding. Contact Gastec to confirm which of their courses are eligible under the scheme. You’ll likely want to take a course in gas engineering or a related field.
  4. Submit Your Claim:
    • You can claim ELCs through the ELC Online Portal. You’ll need to create an account and submit a claim for the training course you’re interested in.
    • You will need to provide the necessary documentation, such as proof of military service and course details.
  5. Funding Process:
    • Once approved, the ELC will cover a portion of the course fees. You may need to contribute some funds depending on the cost of the training and how much you are eligible to claim.
  6. Complete Your Training:
    • Once everything is approved and funding is arranged, you can proceed with your training with Gastec.

It’s always a good idea to contact Gastec directly and speak to someone about your options, as they may be able to provide more specific guidance on how to use your ELC for gas engineer training. Additionally, checking with the resettlement office within your service or through the Veterans’ Gateway can help streamline the process.
