Gastec runs unvented WRAS courses throughout the year and on demand. Bespoke heating systems training can be arranged upon request.
Both courses are one day including training and assessment. Certification is awarded on completion of the course.
Most homes with hot water cylinders typically have a vented cylinder. It is usually made from copper and gets its water supply from a large cold water cistern tank located in the loft space. The boiler obtains its water supply by way of a gravity feed from the tank to the cylinder. A vented cylinder gets its name from a vent pipe that terminates into the loft tank and allows for expansion as the water is heated.
In contrast to a vented cylinder, an unvented cylinder is fed directly from the cold main supply. This means that there is no need for a tank in the loft space. Thanks to their direct feed from the cold mains supply, they benefit from improved pressure and flow rate. Instead of a vent pipe, unvented cylinders have an expansion vessel or an internal air gap within the cylinder to allow for expansion as the water is heated.
Strict safety regulations have been put in place due to their high-pressure performance. This means that installers must have a G3 qualification if they wish to install any unvented hot water system within a domestic property.
Family run for almost 30 years. Gastec offers gas ACS, OFTEC register courses, LPG courses, commercial gas courses, gas conversion courses, Heat pump training and so much more. Don’t take our word on it, just look at the reviews!
All water fittings and associated materials must by law conform with the Water Supply Regulations. WRAS Approval is simply the easiest and most reliable way of demonstrating compliance. WR1 is the certification attained on completion of the course. This certification is also a prerequisite to undertaking air source heat pump training.
The G3 training course will give delegates a full understanding of the installation, commissioning and servicing of unvented hot water systems, as well as water regulations and other statutory requirements.
The training session covers the installation, legislation and safety of domestic unvented hot water. Delegates will then undertake a formal assessment, which is marked on the day. Successful candidates will receive a certificate of competence, as defined by the Building Regulations G3.
