The Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS)Â is an industry-led scheme which demonstrates the quality and reliability of approved products and installation companies.
Being MCS certified demonstrates to your customers that you install heat pumps to the industry-expected level of quality every time. MCS provides assurance and access to Government funding.
Applicants must hold a nationally recognised qualification and/or registration in a trade associated with heating and/or plumbing work for a period of not less than two years.
Or
Must have ‘on the job’ heating installation and/or maintenance experience for a period of not less than two years.
And
Hold current and valid Water Regulations certificate.
Hold current and valid Unvented Hot Water certificate.
It is vital that heating technicians working with heat pumps are properly trained for the work they carry out. OFTEC training and assessment is designed to provide confidence for the technician and peace of mind for customers but is also important for safety, environmental and economic reasons. Because of this, ensuring that technicians undertake appropriate training and assessment is central to OFTEC’s competent person registration scheme.Â
CCN1 (Domestic Gas Safety) is the gas industry core qualification for engineers wanting to work on gas appliances. With your CCN1 Gas qualification, you can apply to be on the Gas Safe Register to work on gas appliances such as CENWAT1 CKR1 HTR1 DAH1 MET1. This is a common qualification to hold as a pre-requisite for air source heat pump training.
OFTEC stands for the Oil Firing Technical Association. It is a ‘competent persons scheme’ to which Gastec offers courses. Approved installers may install oil, solid fuel and renewable heating equipment, including heat pumps, under the OFTEC scheme.
