This gas safety assessment is designed to test the gas safety competency of an engineer in MET1. Training and assessment is carried out to Test competencies in the installation, commissioning, exchange and removal of domestic gas meters.
Range of domestic gas meters covered – Primary or secondary meters of capacity up to and including 6 m3 /h. Operatives installing meters with a higher supply pressure, between 75 mbar – 2 bar, will additionally require the REGT1 assessment.
This is a One Day course which is inclusive of half a day of training and half a day of assessments.
This course is designed for anyone seeking Initial Assessment or Re-Assessment on MET1 ACS.
MET1 training will often be done as part of a package alongside your CCN1 domestic ACS gas qualification. Common add-ons alongside MET1 include:
• CCN1 – Domestic core gas safety
• CKR1 – Domestic Gas Cooking Appliances
• HTR1 – Domestic Space Heaters (including Gas Fires and Wall Heaters)
• DAH1 – Domestic warm air heaters
• REGT1 – Domestic medium pressure gas meter regulators
• CPA1 – Combustion performance
• CMDDA – C0/C02 Atmosphere and appliance testing
Commercial/industrial engineers can undertake MET1 ACS, without the need for CCN1, but only if they encounter domestic-sized appliances within non-domestic premises.
These consist of open-book written assessments. The Open Book assessments permit the use of approved reference material such as the Gastec manual to obtain answers.
The written assessment contains either multiple questions or true/false statements.
Normally undertaken alongside a core gas ACS qualification, training and assessment would include the following and more:
Before a candidate can be allowed to sit for the MET1 ACS assessment, they need to provide evidence of an in-date ACS gas core
Candidates must hold one of the following core qualifications as a pre-requisite for taking MET1 –
CATEGORY 1 APPLICANTS
Experienced gas fitting operatives seeking certificate renewal and/or assessment and certification to extend their work range.
CATEGORY 2 APPLICANTS
Individuals with relevant gas experience, and other individuals with relevant qualifications and experience in similar job disciplines, for example:
plumbers and installers of piped gas other than LPG or Natural Gas engineers from the domestic oil industry, electrical appliance service engineers and marine engineers/fitters
heating and ventilation engineers and refrigeration engineers/fitters
Individuals from outside the United Kingdom who have relevant qualifications and experience.
CATEGORY 3 APPLICANTS
Individuals without previous experience are entering the industry for the first time.
ON SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION
Upon receipt and verification of the Application for Certification and Assessment documents, UK Certification will be the body to award the certification issued for your personal use.
